The developers recognized that what most Essentials users are going to want to do is to create a painting from a photograph so the program opens to that feature letting new users try out the Auto-Paint feature. The new Painter Essentials 7 cuts straight to the chase. Painter Essentials is Corel’s gift to people who like the idea of creating paintings from their photos, embellishing their photos, or combining digital paint and photographic elements but who are daunted by the complexity of imaging tools. Most recently, Corel released an update Painter Essentials. In the summer of 2019, Corel released its latest update of Painter, with AI features and added support for modern computers with GPUs and multiple cores. It released the ParticleShop utility which enables Painter’s powerful brushes to be used within Corel’s other imaging tools such as Paintshop Pro, and also Adobe’s tools Lightroom and Photoshop. In 2017, Corel decided to capitalize on the popularity of Painter’s capabilities and effects. Corel’s CAD products have Mac versions as well. As a primarily Windows-centric tool, Painter gave Corel an important product on the Mac and it inspired the company to port its flagship CorelDraw to the Mac. ![]() More importantly, over the years, Corel has made Painter much more accessible.Ĭorel acquired Painter in 2001 and has continued to develop the product. I kept thinking that his brushstrokes looked like thick paint…thinner of course. I have always heard that Sargent was the king of Bravura strokes. I didn’t think the marks looked at all like our current Sargent Brush. You can zoom in and look at the various brushstrokes. ![]() I think the turning point came when I was looking at a Sargent painting at Google Arts and Culture. It didn’t occur to me to use them thinly and more like traditional oils that are not painted with a palette knife or gobs of paint on a brush. But my mindset was that thick paint needed to be used thickly. The more I used thick paint the more I felt like it emulated oil paint better than any other category in Painter. It appeared folks didn’t like to paint thickly. I also noticed that they didn’t seem as popular as I thought they should be. When Thick Paint was introduced two years ago, I loved it and still do. I have just finished a set of Corel Painter brushes called Skip’s Ultimate Thick Paint Category. ![]()
